What You Need to Know

Each year, 200 volunteers are needed to produce about 4,000 hours of original programming!

Our orientation lasts roughly 30-45 minutes and takes place at our studio in Lexington. We talk a bit about the history of Radio Eye, give you a studio tour, cover how we do what we do, and answer any of your questions.

Following orientation, we will schedule an audition to acquaint you with our recording process, help you feel comfortable in the booth, and allow us to give you feedback on your reading. The audition will take 30-45 minutes to record.

We ask volunteers to come in once per week during a scheduled window, though we are flexible about scheduling. You will be at the studio from an hour to an hour and a half each time you volunteer depending on what you read. Many programs are 30 minutes, some are an hour, and we typically supply the reading material.

Volunteering in Lexington

Our Lexington studio is located at 162 Old Todds Rd. Suite 280, just off of Richmond Rd. right outside of New Circle. There is a large parking lot in front, and our second story studios are accessible via elevator or stairs.

We have opportunities for recorded readers and occasional office help in Lexington.

Reading at Home

You can also volunteer as a reader from your own home! Remote readers record their programs anywhere they want (free of extraneous noise) and send their files to us through a file-sharing program, typically Dropbox. Read our instructions for recording on iPhone/iPad at home to see if you’re interested!

Like our in-studio volunteers, remote readers must go through the audition process. If located in or near Lexington, many remote readers volunteer once or twice in-studio to get used to the reading format and recording software.
